{KXLG, Aberdeen, SD} On Monday, October 13th a dedication and reveal of the new Gold Star Family Memorial, located at Anderson Park, will be held in Aberdeen. The memorial was created through a partnership of the Woody Williams Foundation and the Old Cronies. The Woody Williams Foundation is a charitable organization named after Medal of Honor Recipient Hershel “Woody” Williams whose goal is to establish permanent Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments in communities throughout the United States. The Old Cronies is an organization in Aberdeen founded to assist veterans and their families by paying it forward for their sacrifices. Tera Timmerman is the treasurer for the group and details the timeline of how the monument came into being…

She says the idea for the monument came about after seeing a similar monument in Sturgis …

Timmerman says that the Old Cronies Group has 3 Gold Star family members in their organization, who lost their brother in the Vietnam War. The memorial is a way to make sure the family has a place to go to remember their loved one, while recognizing they themselves have not been forgotten…

Timmerman stresses that even though the memorial is in Aberdeen, it is for every Gold Star Family residing in the Glacial Lakes Area. She adds that the memorial, which will be dedicated on Monday, October 13th at 10am in Anderson Park, is open 24 hours for anyone to visit.
