A remembrance ceremony for area fallen veterans will take place at the Lorain County Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, according to a news release.
The ceremony will start at 6 p.m. May 25 on the grounds of the Old Courthouse, 308 Second St. in downtown Elyria.
Gold Star families and relatives are invited as honored guests, according to the release.
Jacob Smith, executive director of the Lorain County Veterans Service Commission, will provide remarks, the release said.
There will be a wreath placement, a moment of silence and taps to honor and to remember the fallen.
The ceremony is open to all who wish to pay their respects to the families who have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom, the release said.
“The Gold Star Families Memorial Monument pays tribute to the families whose loved ones have given the last full measure of devotion to our nation,” the release said. “It was dedicated on Sept. 29, 2024.
“Homeland, Family, Patriot and Sacrifice are inscribed on the memorial which stands as a symbol of the reverence we hold for the families of these fallen warriors.”
